As they sometimes involve a good deal of search, they call for a considerable amount of my time. I am occasionally called upon by officers from other Government departments in a similar way. The practice is helpful and throws light on the difficulties of the officers concerned and incidentally is of advantage to the Government.
Such correspondence generally gives a fair idea of the nature of the duties to which I attend, in addition to the general supervision of the office and routine work.
